And where’s logic? – Position and Significance of Logic in Science and the Humanities

MINIONA -

Wydział Filozoficzno-Historyczny, Uniwersytet Łódzki
Częstochowa, ul. Zbierskiego 2/4

Logic – is it a field of philosophy established centuries ago in order to validate reasoning, or is it a contemporary research tool? For certain, a paucity of logic is easily discerned by everyone (or isn’t it?), yet how often do we notice its presence? Is it one and persistent, or maybe diverse in the abundance of its types: informal, hybrid, fuzzy, modal…? What is the significance and the way of perceiving logic in different fields? Is logic of the humanities the same logic as the logic of the mathematics? Is the logic itself always logical? Do we need logic still? Is it possible to find logicality in things illogical at first sight?

All in all, during this conference we will be interested in logic defined both as a separate discipline of study, and as an instrument of analysis in formal as well as natural languages, as well as how the logic appears in other branches of life.

We invite to participate in our conference both students and researchers working in fields such as (but not restricted to):
• Argumentation
• Cognitive Science
• Computer Science
• Economy and Sociology
• Law
• Linguistics
• Mathematics
• Philosophy
• Political Science
• Psychology
• Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
• Statistics

Conference languages: Polish, English
