THE 21ST CENTURY POLISH MIGRANTS IN WESTERN EUROPE AND THEIR ROADS TO INTEGRATION. International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Migration Experience, October 10-13 , 2018

The Conference is organized by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IAE PAN), and supported by the Committee of Ethnological Sciences (KNE PAN) and the Centre for Migration Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (CeBaM UAM).  

 

The conference theme will be focused broadly on Polish migrants in Western Europe, regarding gathering together, both senior and junior scholars, independent researchers, postgraduate students, and academicians specializing on migration(s), within all academic disciplines. The conference has an interdisciplinary profile. The organizers are inviting speakers and participants who have carried out fieldworks related to Polish migrants, especially with anthropological approaches and qualitative methods.

Abstracts should not exceed 400 words, submitted no later than July 31, 2018. Participants are expected to complete the attached application form and submit it together with abstract using the following email address: etnopan@iaepan.poznan.pl

Projected main topics:

1/ Migration strategies;

2/ The impact of hosting countries’ policies on migrants’ experiences;

3/ Migration, transmigration and migrants’ ties with families in Poland;

4/ Everyday life of migrants;

5/ Professional activities and social statues; difficulties, stability and/or success;

6/ Hosting countries and homeland in the eyes of Polish migrants;

7/ Social and political involvement of Polish migrants;

8/ Social and cultural strategies applied in family life;

9/ Stereotypes and mutual perceptions of migrants and mainstream society.

Conference fee: 550 PLN or its equivalent (approx. 135 Euro or 150 USD).

The conference fee covers all expenses:  3 days of accommodation at the conference hotel, full boarding (three meals a day), refreshments during coffee breaks, transportation between Poznan and Będlewo, and evening social event (banquet). Details for the payment transfer will be sent to all potential participants later, together with the approval letters.

Terms and deadlines:

The Call for Papers will remain open until July 31, 2018, with final decisions to be communicated by the end of August 2018. The conference hotel has a limited number of rooms, therefore we strongly recommend submission of application forms as soon as possible.

We hope that the conference will be a fruitful platform for an exchange of latest studies on Polish migrants in Europe, understanding their experiences both from Polish and foreign scientific perspectives.
