Glottodidactics – media – communication. Developing the communicative competence.

MINIONA -

Łódź

The main goal of the conference is to present current topics related to the acquisition and improvement the communicative competence in both native speakers and language learners. Texts used in the process of teaching foreign languages (including texts from the mass media) will be analyzed. We also intend to research the mass media discourse on Lodz. Our assumption is that the development of the communicative competence (consisting of the discursive competence and the genre competence) is the condition for an individual’s effective participation in the communicative community. It defines the individual’s ability to create and understand utterances in specific situations.
The papers presented will cover social, historical and cultural factors influencing various speech genres, which give the Polish language its unique characteristics, but also integrate it with the European cultural circle. In the analysis of communicative events, the investigation of the text as the result of the application of certain genre and discourse conventions will be the priority. The use of these conventions may depend on the domain of life (science, teaching, politics, mass media, entertainment, religion), place (school, court, café, home), entity (professional relations, family or ethnic relations) or other factors. The speakers will also discuss the cases of breaking discourse and genre rules and the interactional consequences of such actions.
The proposed topic is the results of the need for discussion on the improvement of the communicative competence. This competence is crucial for the contemporary person’s participation in the complex world of numerous discourses and cultures.
