CALL FOR PAPERS

Dear Colleagues,
30th November 2023 will mark one year since Open AI’s presentation of ChatGPT which has triggered an avalanche of events, provoking heated debates and extreme reactions. Representatives of hard and soft sciences as well as arts and humanities have also been formulating opinions on the increasingly expansive presence of AI in the human world. We wish to contribute to this discussion by opening a research field focused on the analysis of texts produced by Artificial Intelligence. To explore this field fruitfully we need to establish a platform for sharing experiences and insights of researchers looking into the semiotic activity of human beings from diverse perspectives and employing various methods and approaches. We understand semiotics broadly - regarding linguistics as its part but without restricting the notion of ‘text’ solely to structures based on verbal code.
We view our humanities-oriented venture into the world of AI-generated texts as a form of research reconnaissance, which gives the conference formula an open character and allows us to reach out to a worldwide community of scholars. In order not to limit the scope of the discussion, we do not specify key issues or suggest thematic panels, which, we trust, will emerge after the acceptance of the submitted abstracts.
We are convinced that the results of the proceedings of our humanities forum will contribute to addressing the challenge of the necessary reconceptualisation or redefinition of text as an object of semiotic research in view of AI’ activity in this domain. We also believe that they will prove applicable to transdisciplinary approaches to the phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence.
This is why we plan to disseminate them in a collective work to be published by an internationally renowned academic press (level II on the list of publishers of the Polish Ministry of Education and Science).

We look forward to receiving your abstracts.

With best regards,

Organising Committee:
prof. Jakub Sadowski, prof. Dorota Szumska,
dr Elena Kurant, dr Krzysztof Ozga, dr Joanna Patyk
