With great pleasure we announce the International Conference on the topic “Legal regulations on diversity in healthcare in European countries: challenges for national legislation”, which is to be held on 4th and 5th March 2020 in Warsaw, Poland.
Healthcare is an excellent example of a public space that models the processes of social integration and social equity. Healthcare can bring together diverse groups and sections of a society under the common idea of promotion of health and fighting illness. However, depending on its organization, healthcare can also engender or perpetuate societal segregation of minority groups.
The project “Healthcare as a Public Space: Social Integration and Social Diversity in the Context of Access to Healthcare in Europe” focuses on diversity in the social context of healthcare, viewed as a public space, in the specific context of medical institutions. The conference “Legal regulations on diversity in healthcare in European countries: challenges for national legislation” intends to examine the implementation of norms and guidelines of the European Institutions concerning diversity and ethical, cultural, and social aspects of integration and exclusion within the healthcare sector in national legal frameworks of EU countries.
During the conference, international experts in the field will deliver invited lectures. The conference will also include sessions dealing with the topics related to diversity (i.e. cultural, ethnic, religious, gender and other aspects). Proposals from other areas related to the topic of the conference are also welcome. Based on their abstracts, participants will be selected to give oral presentations of approximately 15 minutes.
The participants of the conference will be invited to publish in a volume with conference proceedings.
We especially welcome presentations on the following topics:
- national healthcare legislation and its compatibility with EU guidelines on access to healthcare
- diversity in healthcare: systemic and intersectional approaches
-minorities in national healthcare systems: legal provisions vs actual access to healhtcare
- practical challenges of equal access to healthcare
Interested participants are invited to submit their applications consisting of a scientific abstract of the presentation (up to 500 words) as well as a short academic resumé (both in English) until 15th January 2020 in electronic form (PDF) by e-mail to the organizers: Katarzyna Bielińska (katarzyna.bielinska@uw.edu.pl) or Anna Chowaniec (anna.chowaniec90@gmail.com ). For further questions, please contact Katarzyna Bielińska or Anna Chowaniec. The costs of travel, board and lodging will be covered by the organizers. There is no conference fee. The number of participants is limited.
