The conference 'Diasporas in Time of Crisis' is the 2nd edition of the series of conferences devoted to diasporas: 'Diasporas: Past and Present'.

It is pointed out that crises with a national dimension are one of the main factors in the formation of emigrant communities, which later develop into diasporas. Also, at a later time, all kinds of military conflicts, political, natural disasters, both in the original and new country, have a significant impact on the functioning and organization of diasporas. The year 2020 and the pandemic bring to them a lot of new challenges, especially in such a sensitive area as preserving their own national heritage, including the education of children and youth. At the same time, new armed and social conflicts emerged. Thus, it is particularly important to recognize the impact of crises on diasporas, which was set as a goal by the organizers of this edition of our conference.

The general aim of the conferences ‘Diasporas: Past and Present’ is an attempt to look at the issue of diaspora using a broad historical and interdisciplinary approach. Understanding ancient diasporas, including various aspects of their existence in the past, may be useful in the diagnosis of contemporary diasporas and phenomena associated with them. That is why, for the organizers, presentations on the past of the Jewish, Armenian, Greek and Lebanese (Phoenician) diasporas are also important. For this reason, we invite everyone interested in diaspora issues, be it from a global or local perspective, to participate in the conference.

The Conference is organized by Institute of History and Department of Sociology and Political Studies - Institute of Security and Management at Pomeranian University in Slupsk, Research Institute for European Policy and Research Institute of Armenian Studies.

The current edition will be held on April 27-28, 2022, in the on-line form (formally at the Pommeranian University in Słupsk (Poland)).
