International Conference

Called

Facing the EU’s future. Challenges and Strategies

which will be held on 27-28 September 2012 at the University of Wrocław, Poland.

The aim of the conference:

The conference will provide a forum for the international academic debate and exchange the ideas among the scholars interested in the perspectives of the European Union development. This includes discussions concerning the EU’s current problems: unemployment, labour market, social inclusion,  climate changes, energy, territorial disparities between Member States and regions, financial crisis and its influence on relations between Member States and the European economy.

Those challenges are reflected in the EU economic strategy “Europe 2020”, which sets development priorities for the coming years. Among them we have:  struggle with unemployment, building a knowledge-based economy as a main source of economic development, social inclusion through employment and more competitive, coherent and environmentally-friendly economy creation. The aims of the conference is to define the degree of contribution between the reformed policies and the objectives of the economic strategy for Europe and their contribution to the objectives of the Lisbon Treaty.

We are going to focus on the influence on economic development and the position of the EU in the global environment. That is why we believe it is very important to analyze:

1. Whether the EU is aimed by the direction of economic liberalism or the maintenance the protectionism?

2. What kinds of instruments do encourage the EU’s social and economic strategy implementation?

3. Do the EU Member States have common vision of the future of European integration process?

4. Does the European integration process today is a consequence of the coherent philosophy of cooperation or became only the outcome of bureaucratic mechanism?

5.  Are the ongoing global processes accurately identified and reflected in the EU development strategies?

The conference is opened to all relevant scientific disciplines  and sub- disciplines, including, European studies,  political and social science, economics, international relations, European law, history. It will also a good opportunity to exchange the views between scientific and political communities.
